v5.3.0

Highlights

🐞 Bug fixes

  • Fixed HTTP header conflict between Content-Length and Transfer-Encoding in res.send - by @YuryShkoda in #4893

    Fixed the behavior of res.send() to prevent conflicts between Content-Length and Transfer-Encoding HTTP headers in responses. The Content-Length header in res.send() is now only added when a Transfer-Encoding header is not present, complying with the HTTP specification that states both headers should not coexist in the same response. ETag generation is unaffected by the presence of a Transfer-Encoding header - by @cuishuang in #7459

🚀 Improvements

  • Allow conditional revalidation for QUERY requests. req.fresh previously only validated freshness for GET and HEAD requests, so QUERY responses never returned 304 despite a matching validator. Since QUERY is a safe, idempotent, and cacheable method that supports conditional requests, it is now included in the freshness check - by @Cherry in #7366

    // QUERY /reports with If-None-Match: "12345"
    app.query('/reports', (req, res) => {
      res.set('ETag', '"12345"');
      res.send(results); // now responds 304 Not Modified
    });
  • Improve HTML structure in res.redirect() responses when HTML format is accepted by adding <!DOCTYPE html>, <title>, and <body> tags for better browser compatibility - by @Bernice55231 in #5167

  • When calling app.render with options set to null, the locals object is handled correctly, preventing unexpected errors and making the method behave the same as when options is omitted or an empty object is passed - by AkaHarshit in #6903

    app.render('index', null, callback); // now works as expected
  • Upgrade content-type to ^2.0.0, bringing a faster parser (~1.5x quicker Content-Type parsing/formatting in res.send()) along with a behavior change: res.send() now keeps any existing parameters when adding the charset and no longer throws on a Content-Type that fails to parse. type-is is upgraded to ^2.1.0 as part of the same change - by @blakeembrey in #7234

    res.set('Content-Type', 'text/plain; foo=bar').send('hey');
    // -> Content-Type: text/plain; foo=bar; charset=utf-8
  • The default error handler now logs the full error object instead of only its stack trace, so nested details such as Error.cause and library-specific properties (e.g. Sequelize's parent/original) are no longer swallowed - by @Nitin-Mohapatra in #6464

  • Upgrade content-disposition to ^2.0.1, which changes the Content-Disposition header emitted by res.download(), res.attachment(), and res.sendFile(): file names that are valid HTTP tokens are no longer wrapped in quotes. This is equivalent per RFC 6266, but applications asserting on the exact header bytes should update their expectations - by @blakeembrey in #7233

    res.attachment('user.html');
    // before -> Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="user.html"
    // after  -> Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=user.html

Updates @tanstack/react-virtual from 3.14.13 to 3.14.14

Release notes

Sourced from @tanstack/react-virtual's releases.

@tanstack/react-virtual@3.14.14

Patch Changes

  • #1301 ce57b78 - fix(react-virtual): position directDomUpdates rows that mount without the owner re-rendering

    Rows were only positioned by the owner's layout effect or the next onChange. A row mounted by a child that re-renders on its own (local state, context, a resolved Suspense boundary) skipped both when it was fixed-size, and stayed unpositioned until the range changed. Rows are now positioned as they register through measureElement, and containerRef positions the rows that mounted together with the container.

  • Updated dependencies [43675bc, 9df47a3, c644f10, 2a631f4]:

Updates @playwright/test from 1.63.0 to 1.64.0

Release notes

Sourced from @playwright/test's releases.

v1.64.0

🧰 WebMCP

New page.webmcp and frame.webmcp give access to the tools that a page registers through the experimental WebMCP browser API, so you can test them like any other part of your app:

const browser = await chromium.launch({ args: ['--enable-features=WebMCP'] });
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com');
for (const tool of await page.webmcp.tools())
console.log(tool.name, tool.description);
const result = await page.webmcp.callTool('add', { a: 2, b: 40 });
console.log(result.content[0].text); // "42"

Playwright MCP also supports WebMCP by default, with page-defined tools offered to the agent as webmcp_<tool>. Pass --no-webmcp to opt out.

playwright-cli exposes them as well:

playwright-cli webmcp-list
playwright-cli webmcp-call search_catalog --params '{"query":"cats"}'

🎬 Better videos

Videos can now be recorded at a custom frame rate, and the decorations for actions are styled with plain CSS:

// playwright.config.ts
import { defineConfig } from '@playwright/test';
export default defineConfig({
use: {
video: {
mode: 'on',
size: { width: 1920, height: 1080 },
fps: 60,
show: {
actions: {
style: {
point: 'width: 20px; height: 20px; border-radius: 50%; background: red',
highlight: 'outline: 2px solid #333; background: rgba(0, 128, 255, .15)',
title: 'font-size: 16px',
},
},
},
},
</tr></table>

Updates @vitejs/plugin-react from 6.1.1 to 6.1.2

Release notes

Sourced from @vitejs/plugin-react's releases.

plugin-react@6.1.2

Fix HMR for compound components (#1484)

Adding or removing a component from a compound component was not handled, creating stale updates. Doing this now triggers hmr invalidate on the file and propagates the invalidation to importers.

Fix compiler.logDiagnostics option not working (#1483)

With oxc-transform-react >= 0.148, the logDiagnostics was not working. This version fixes it and requires oxc-transform-react >= 0.152 as a peer dependency if you are using the compiler option. compiler.logDiagnostics option is now deprecated and should be swapped for the builtin compiler.reportDiagnostics.

Disable refresh for non-jsx with compiler enabled (fix #1478) (#1485)

When the compiler was enabled, TS files could trigger fast refresh which would cause runtime errors. The logic now follows what the builtin oxc plugin in Vite does.

Updates i18next-cli from 1.74.4 to 1.75.2

Changelog

Sourced from i18next-cli's changelog.

1.75.2

  • fix(extract): declarations with the same name in different files no longer overwrite each other. Two generated OpenAPI clients that both export components resolved to whichever file was read first, so import { components as githubComponents } from './github-api' and import { components as digitalOceanComponents } from './digital-ocean-api' extracted the keys of only one of them, and moving files around changed which. A name now resolves to the module the file imports it from, for renamed and plain imports, namespace imports (GH.components), .js import specifiers and tsconfig paths aliases. Imports that cannot be traced to a scanned file (packages, re-exporting barrels) still resolve by name as before. Fixes #306.

1.75.1

  • fix(extract): types and values read through a namespace import resolve like named imports. With import * as Types from './types', a qualified type ((color: Types.Color) => …, x as Types.Color, FC<Types.Props>, declare const s: Types.Status) and a namespace member (Types.SIZES.map(…), Types.Status.Done, t(Types.LABELS.save), Object.keys(Types.LABELS)) now extract their keys, also for a namespace re-exported from a barrel (export * as Shared from './types'). Fixes #305.
  • fix(extract): an exported as const object resolves in the files that import it: t(LABELS.save) and Object.keys(LABELS) only worked in the declaring file before.
  • fix(extract): a value typed keyof typeof MAP resolves to the map's keys, so t(`label.${key}`) with declare const key: keyof typeof LABELS extracts label.save and label.cancel. This branch never matched before.

1.75.0

  • feat(extract): new extract.maxTypeDepth option sets how many levels of nested object members are followed when a dynamic key reads a typed value (default: 5). Higher values cost time and memory on large recursive types such as OpenAPI schemas. Requested in #302.
  • fix(extract): the depth now counts from the type an indexed access picks instead of from the declared wrapper type. type Pet = components['schemas']['Pet'] gets the full depth below Pet, where the components/schemas wrapper used to take two of the five levels.
  • fix(extract): numeric keys resolve in object types and indexed access types, so openapi-typescript response types work: operations['getPet']['responses'][200]['content']['application/json'] and op.responses[200].content['application/json'].status resolved nothing before.

1.74.8

  • fix(extract): a commented template literal no longer extracts its placeholder as a key. // t(`QUARTER.${q}`) extracted QUARTER.${q} and // t(`status.${deepObject.status}`) extracted status.${deepObject.status}. Such a comment now keeps the existing keys it matches (QUARTER.1, QUARTER.2, …) even with removeUnusedKeys, the way a commented static key keeps its key, while code can still add new matching keys. A pattern without any static part (`${a}.${b}`) is ignored. Fixes #304.
