medtech-deal-prep

A Claude skill that generates a 2-page founder-call prep brief from a one-sentence description of a medtech, biotech, or medical-device company.

Built for angel investors who want fast, grounded context before a founder meeting — market shape, FDA pathway, competitive landscape, comparable exits, and 5 specific questions to ask.

What it produces

A ~2-page markdown brief covering:

  • Problem, market & launch wedge — burden, why now, and 1–2 candidate beachhead indications with rationale
  • Standard of care — what patients get today and key limitations
  • GTM, manufacturing & reimbursement — commercial motion for the category, supply complexity, CPT/HCPCS context
  • Competitive landscape — direct and indirect competitors, cited
  • FDA pathway & evidence bar — likely regulatory route with precedent, plus the clinical evidence required
  • Strategics & their relevant assets — large pharma/medtech players and their adjacent pipelines
  • Comparable exits — recent M&A and IPOs in the indication or modality
  • Where the work happens — academic centers or surgeon-champion networks, depending on category
  • 5 questions for the founder — grounded in specific findings from the research above

Design principles

The skill is built to avoid the failure modes most diligence shortcuts produce:

  • Space-level, not company-specific. It does not try to identify or analyze the specific company being pitched, even if the one-liner fingerprints to a known public company. That's the founder call's job.
  • Honest about thin sourcing. When comparable exits or competitive intel are sparse, it says so rather than padding.
  • No fabricated FDA precedents, competitor names, exit values, or KOLs. If web search didn't return it, it doesn't go in.
  • 5 questions reference research findings, not generic startup questions.
  • Length is a guideline, not a rule. Content-rich modalities land longer; sparse ones stay tight.

Requirements

  • Claude Pro, Team, or Enterprise plan (skills are not available on the free tier)
  • Web search enabled (default on most plans)

Install

  1. Download medtech-deal-prep.skill from this repo
  2. In Claude.ai, go to Settings → Capabilities → Skills
  3. Click "Upload skill" and select the file
  4. Done — the skill is now available across your Claude chats

Use

In any Claude chat, paste a one-sentence company description and explicitly request a prep brief. Trigger phrases include:

  • "Prep brief for: [one-liner]"
  • "Run the prep skill on: [one-liner]"
  • "Diligence brief: [one-liner]"
  • "Founder call prep: [one-liner]"

The skill will not auto-trigger on casual mentions of medical solutions — you have to ask for the brief explicitly.

Example input:

Prep brief: a nerve end cap for amputees

The skill will run 8–15 web searches across the sections above and produce the brief in chat, typically in 2–3 minutes.

Tips

  • Be specific in the one-liner if you can. "A drug for PKU" works fine. "A drug" doesn't. The skill will ask one clarifying question if the input is too generic.
  • You can attach the deck. The skill works from the one-liner alone but accepts company name, founder names, or supporting documents as optional context.
  • Read the 5 questions first. They're the most useful output for the call itself — designed to be answerable in 2–5 minutes each and grounded in specific gaps the research surfaced.

Feedback

This is v1. If the brief comes out weak on a specific deal, please share the one-liner and what was missing — open an issue, or just send me a note. Skills iterate quickly and group-level feedback makes it better for everyone.
