Porting to Windows requires a redesign of the fundamental architecture.
We are currently restructuring the core system and redesigning the architecture to support both Windows and macOS builds from a shared codebase. This work is focused on establishing a clean cross-platform foundation while preserving the existing functionality of the project.
This repository remains a native macOS app (Swift / AppKit). A Windows port is not being merged into this codebase according to robbietilton.
There is an independent fork for Windows 11: Cengokill/CompositorWindows. That project is currently catching up with the latest Mac Compositor features (layers, masks, painting, adjustments, and related workflow) rather than waiting on a shared cross-platform rewrite here. You can creat all the issues you want for Windows here !
It is separately maintained and is not an official or endorsed Windows build of this project. For Windows interest, follow that repo (issues/PRs there). Linux is not part of that effort.
I'd love to have this app on windows and eventually linux.
Will this be a fork or is the effort accepted by the creator of this project?
Unfortunately, it is still a fork at this stage. More precisely, my plan is to port my macOS fork to Windows and eventually develop it into a standalone project.
A Linux version is not currently on the roadmap, but my long-term goal is to build it into a full-featured alternative to Photoshop. Through various updates to the fork, I have been gradually reshaping its architecture and workflow in that direction, while keeping the editing experience and feature set familiar to Photoshop users.
I’m currently working on the Windows port, which requires a fairly substantial cross-platform restructuring of the application.
One of the reasons I’m sharing this work here is that I hope some of the ideas, improvements, or architectural work from my fork may eventually be useful to the original Compositor project as well.
Closing in favor of #23, so Windows ports are all in one thread (and #19 for Linux). This repository stays a native macOS app, but if you've made a port, please share it in #23. Once one is clearly well used and maintained, I'll link it from the README.
