This project aims to act as a directory for STEM resources targeted at student competition teams in high school (such as those that participate in FIRST, BEST, etc ) and in college (such as those doing RoboCup, IGVC, Battle Bots, URC, etc.)
The focus is to catalog a list of both print and digital resources with the aim of biasing towards used books, public domain texts, open source, or available for free through permissive licenses, for example creative commons. This is done to keep costs comparatively low and focus on sufficient resources for the context of promoting education and discovery in fundamental areas relating to robotics (and other multidisciplinary systems which are as complex as robotics).
The following areas comprising this focus:
- Prototyping & Manufacturing
- Mechanical Engineering & Design
- Electrical Engineering
- Wiring Harness Assembly
- Software / Programming
- Sensing & Perception
- Systems & Testing
- Career & Team
In college I helped to run a high school STEM outreach program which included a fall workshop series aimed at providing a foundation for the following winter / spring FIRST season. My last year doing that was 2012 until returning in 2026 to support a team at the Johnson STEM Activity Center in downtown Atlanta. This resource list is aimed at helping to fill technical gaps I have observed among different teams and to potentially act as references in the creation of support materials.
