Blip

Blip is a free, open-source Chrome extension for editing website content directly on the live page.

Edit content on the page where you can see it, then save a clear before-and-after diff to share with your team or with an AI agent.

Pro Tip - use the "Add site" feature to commit content edit directly to a connected GitHub repo. Syncing your site to its GitHub repo allow allows you to use Blip to live-edit JS, CSS, JSON, TXT, and MD files.

Features

  • Edit in place — click text on a webpage and edit it directly in the browser.
  • GitHub sync — connect sites to GitHub repositories and commit compatible edits without leaving the page.
  • Manage multiple sites — add and manage as many site-to-repository connections as you need.
  • Local file editing — if you are localhosting, edit supported local files and save changes directly to disk.
  • Structured diffs — keep a per-site record of edits and copy them as Markdown for teammates or AI coding tools.
  • File browsing — browse and edit supported front-end files in connected repositories.

How it works

Blip works best with static and HTML-first sites where the rendered content maps directly to files in a GitHub repository. It fetches the source file from GitHub, lets you make visual edits in the browser, and can commit the corresponding change back to the repository.

For other websites, you can still make visual edits and save a structured diff for implementation.

Installation

Install Blip from the Chrome Web Store, then click the Blip toolbar icon while viewing a webpage.

To load the extension from source:

  1. Clone this repository.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome.
  3. Enable Developer mode.
  4. Click Load unpacked and select this repository directory.
