Platforms

  • RISC-V 64 is a supported target. RVV 1.0 f32 matmul kernels, i8/i32 kernels, f16 kernels behind Zvfh, and RVV element-wise and reduction kernels. Vector support is detected through hwprobe rather than the AT_HWCAP V bit. CI cross-tests riscv64 under qemu with a Bootlin musl toolchain.
  • WASM: fused simd128 f32 gelu, silu and erf kernels; a 4x16 f32 GEMM kernel picked by N; the relaxed-simd int8 dot path is now bit-exact across engines; BlockedConv's inner loop is SIMD-vectorized. CI runs the WASM kernel invariants against relaxed-simd, and the CLI builds for wasm32-wasip1.
  • Fix: Windows ARM64 linalg assembly builds.

CPU / linalg

  • Kernel declaration and dispatch reworked. Every kernel — matmul, element-wise, reduction, unicast, by-scalar, look-up table, panel extractor — is now declared once by macro and registered where it is defined, and dispatch reads one inventory instead of hand-plugged tables. A kernel declares its instruction set, ranking and gating follow from that declaration, and each platform registers a single dispatch policy that picks from a shared candidate list (candidates() takes one query, shared with core). The kit/plug/quality-label vocabulary is retired.
  • Every kernel tree compiles on every host. arm32, arm64, x86_64 and wasm kernels build anywhere via bail stubs (foreign trees behind a feature), so CI runs linalg's tests with all kernel trees compiled in — which surfaced dotprod and SME tiers no local build had ever compiled.
  • Accuracy fixes across activations and reductions: f32 tanh and sigmoid are kept in range by their input clamp alone (wasm, x86, arm32); the generic GELU is computed with the tanh polynomial and the generic SiLU with the sigmoid polynomial; f16 silu and erf are served from tables instead of widening every chunk to f32; aarch64 cores without FEAT_FP16 get an f32-roundtrip f16 tanh kernel; softmax and the generic reduce accumulate f16 row sums in f32.
  • Accurate softmax exp. The fast-compact exp path is gone; the accurate f32 exp is backed by vectorized hand-written kernels on aarch64, wasm, x86_64 FMA and AVX-512, while GPUs keep the hardware fast path.
  • Matmul selection: the aarch64 mat-vec kernel is picked by m rather than unconditionally; the AMX bf16 opt-in is a ranking boost rather than a capability; FMA f32 kernels rank as peers of the AVX-512 ones; conv's block-quant candidates rank like everything else; kernel return codes are checked in release builds.
  • Any pack format can now be packed from a view.
  • Fix: integer Div and Mod wrap at MIN / -1 instead of panicking.
  • Fix: dropping of uninitialised memory in tensor0, nth and Range.

Core

  • Turn/state model reworked. Ops receive an EvalContext rather than the whole TurnState; the per-turn scope is named turn, op scratch lives in one place, the state freeze/unfreeze roundtrip is gone, and a State can resolve a symbol for the coming turn. Every state names the lane it sits in and is addressed by it. PinConst, the parked variable-based state ops and the two states that carried nothing are deleted.
  • ONNX: Symbolic dimensions use rationals. dim_expr is backed by num-rational with a nom parser, floor is out of the TDim parser, and ONNX dim_param is parsed as a rational and translated to a TDim explicitly. TDim "floor" is retired.
  • Tensor data paths: Tensor::fill_slice, the at_prefix slice variants, slicing and broadcasting by contiguous runs instead of ndarray views/copies, one-datum blocks copied inline in stack_tensors, and tiling by slice assignment.
  • Perf: 1x1 convolutions stay on eager im2col, lazy im2col is preferred when the matmul has a single row panel, depthwise deconvolution is fused into a DepthwiseDeconv op instead of an outer-product einsum, Pow against a uniform exponent lowers to a PowConst unary op (with NNEF serialization), binary by-scalar reads the scalar in place for short groups, Gather's block copy skips slice copies for one-datum blocks, and LstmEpilogue sizes its row loop from the state.
  • Perf: OptScan passes the input handle through and hands the body output out directly when a single iteration covers the whole axis.
  • ONNX GRU: the standard cell is fused into one GruEpilogue op.

Streaming / pulse

  • Perf: PulsePad skips its copy and symbol re-resolution on pass-through pulses.
  • Work-in-progress: Laned/batch execution for increased parallelism.
  • PulsedAxisSlice is a typed op; Delay and PulsePad state (CPU and GPU) is addressed by lane; GPU pulses are edge-padded from the right frame.
  • The pulse proptests are a suite, CI repeats the pulsed cases over TRACT_RUNTIMES and runs the pulsed NNEF cases on device, and the CLI brings a node's pulse output to host before slicing it.
  • BatchifyDataTree transoform: A model's data-free wires now get the batch axis.

GPU

  • Metal: skinny f16 matmuls route through a port of MLX's gemv_wide; contiguous softmax_nd3 gets a fast path.
  • CUDA is optional in the Rust facade and in tract-ffi.

NNEF / ONNX

  • ONNX loader options are carried as JSON and can be passed from the facade.
  • Fix: average pooling round-trips lost count_include_pad. The serializer wrote every border as ignore and the deserializer built every SumPool with the flag false, so a pool that counts its padding came back dividing by the real elements alone (a 9/4 error on a 3x3 window holding four values), silently. The flag now rides the NNEF border argument: constant counts the pad, ignore leaves it out of both sum and divisor.
  • Fix: ONNX Reshape honours allowzero, rejects a -1 that divides a zero remainder, and rejects a target shape keeping a negative dimension.
  • Fix: GatherNd output shape inference; GRU keeps the cell shape on the output update.
