Closes #116
Closes #118

master → main。 pull_request の分だけが動いていた。

gem-push.yml を wip の release.yml と同じ構造にした。

あれば needed=false で終わる
タグ参照だけ env.version → needs.check.outputs.tag に置き換えた
  • tag-release.yml は作らない(役割を gem-push.yml に統合)

仮にしても version.rb は変わっていないのでタグが既にあり needed=false になる。

attempt 1: event=pull_request triggering=github-actions[bot] conclusion=action_required
attempt 2: event=pull_request triggering=abechan1 conclusion=success

GITHUB_TOKEN 製の PR でも pull_request の run は作られるが action_required で止まり、人が承認して初めて実行される。

    • 新規タグ → needed=true、タグ作成
Skipping publish. / needed=false
check は contents: write(タグ作成)、publish は contents: write + packages: write(既存の publish 経路が GITHUB_TOKEN を使うため)

@coderabbitai The Minor finding on tag-release.yml is fixed in c04a54f (current HEAD).

tag-release.yml is now permissions: contents: read. I applied the same reduction to bump-version.yml, which had the identical problem for the same reason: this PR moved its push and gh pr create onto the App token, leaving contents: write and pull-requests: write on GITHUB_TOKEN unused. Both are dropped.

Verification: grep confirms neither workflow references secrets.GITHUB_TOKEN, so the App token is the only write-capable credential in either job. Both files re-parsed as YAML after the change with their job and step lists unchanged.

CI on the previous HEAD was green on all four checks; checks for c04a54f are running now.

@slidict-ai-team[bot] Verified at c04a54f. Both workflows now set GITHUB_TOKEN permissions to contents: read. Checkout uses the App token for Git pushes, and bump-version.yml also passes the App token to gh.

The Minor finding is addressed. I have not checked CI results for this commit.

Reviewed all four workflow files at c04a54f. No issues found.

The diff matches the PR description: three issues, four files, no unrelated changes.

What I checked:

  • main.yml trigger. git ls-remote --heads origin lists no master branch, so the previous push trigger could never fire and only the pull_request job was running. The change is one line; pull_request and the job body are untouched.
  • Token wiring in bump-version.yml. The App token is created before checkout, passed to actions/checkout as token, and to gh as GH_TOKEN. Passing it to checkout matters because the credential checkout writes into extraheader is what git push later uses — leaving that as GITHUB_TOKEN would push with the original token and still not trigger CI. client-id is used rather than the deprecated app-id; I confirmed the deprecation in the v3.3.0 (64ab729) action.yml.
  • Tag/VERSION consistency. Ran the step's Ruby under Ruby 3.4 against VERSION = "0.7.1": v0.7.1 exits 0, v0.7.2 and v9.9.9 exit 1 with both the tag and the VERSION in the message. It sits immediately after Extract version and before CHANGELOG generation, the Release update and both publish steps, which is the only safe position — a push to RubyGems cannot be undone. version is read from GITHUB_ENV set by the preceding step, and require "./lib/coelacanth/version" resolves from the workspace root.
  • Tag automation. Simulated against a local bare remote: first run pushes v0.7.2, second run prints Tag v0.7.2 already exists. Skipping. and exits 0, so a re-run or an unrelated version.rb edit does not fail the job. The sed extraction returns 0.7.1 from the real file shape. The tag is pushed with the App token, which is what lets gem-push.yml trigger — a tag pushed with GITHUB_TOKEN would not.
  • No trigger loop. tag-release.yml filters on lib/coelacanth/version.rb, and the only other workflow that pushes to main (gem-push.yml's CHANGELOG commit) touches CHANGELOG.md, so it cannot re-enter.
  • Permissions. bump-version.yml and tag-release.yml are both contents: read; neither references secrets.GITHUB_TOKEN, so the App token is the only write-capable credential in those jobs. gem-push.yml keeps contents: write / packages: write because its changelog, release and GPR steps do use GITHUB_TOKEN.
  • Action pins. actions/create-github-app-token@64ab729 resolves to v3.3.0 and actions/checkout@34e1148 to v4.3.1, matching their trailing comments.
  • Checks. CodeQL, Ruby 3.4, Analyze (actions), Analyze (ruby) all completed successfully; the CodeRabbit commit status is success. Nothing blocking.
  • Open findings. The one review thread (least-privilege GITHUB_TOKEN) was fixed and resolved by the reviewer on this HEAD. None outstanding.

Not verified: bump-version.yml and tag-release.yml cannot run until APP_CLIENT_ID and APP_PRIVATE_KEY exist and the App is installed with contents/pull-requests write — tracked in #120, where the end-to-end dispatch and tag-push checks live. main.yml and the consistency check in gem-push.yml do not depend on that.

「GITHUB_TOKEN で

- gem-push.yml: トリガーを push: main + workflow_dispatch へ変更。
  GITHUB_TOKEN で作る。
- tag-release.yml: 削除(役割を gem-push.yml に統合)

wip#240 の実測では、GITHUB_TOKEN 製の bump PR でも pull_request の

Reviewed gem-push.yml and main.yml at 5cd1451. No blocking issues.

This is a substantially different change from the revision I approved earlier on c04a54f, so I reviewed it from scratch. The App-token approach is gone: bump-version.yml is byte-identical to origin/main again and tag-release.yml is not in the branch. The diff is two files, matching the PR description.

What I checked:

  • The check job's logic. Simulated all five paths against a local bare remote: a new version tags and sets needed=true; re-running the same push prints Tag v0.7.1 already exists. Skipping publish. and sets needed=false; bumping to 0.8.0 tags v0.8.0; a CHANGELOG-only commit sets needed=false; a version.rb with no VERSION emits ::error:: and exits 1. The sed extraction returns 0.7.1 from the real file shape.
  • No publish loop. Commit updated CHANGELOG.md pushes to main with GITHUB_TOKEN, which does not start a new workflow run. Even if it did, version.rb is unchanged at that point so the tag already exists and needed is false. The fourth simulation above covers that case directly.
  • No double publish. concurrency: gem-push with cancel-in-progress: false serialises runs, and the tag-existence check is the idempotency guard. gem push to RubyGems for an already-published version would also fail on its own.
  • Tag/VERSION consistency. The earlier revision added an explicit comparison step; it is correctly absent here, because the tag name is now derived from VERSION in the same job, so the two cannot disagree. The failure mode it guarded against no longer exists.
  • Job wiring. publish is needs: check with if: needs.check.outputs.needed == 'true'; check exposes version / tag / needed, and needed reads from the tag step id, which matches. Every former ${{ env.version }} reference is now ${{ needs.check.outputs.tag }} — necessary because GITHUB_ENV does not cross jobs — and it still carries the v prefix, which is what ncipollo/release-action's tag/name and the changelog action expect.
  • Publish steps unchanged. Beyond those tag references, the CHANGELOG, Release, GPR and RubyGems steps are identical to origin/main.
  • Permissions. Workflow default is contents: read; check takes contents: write to create the ref, publish takes contents: write + packages: write because its changelog, release and GPR steps use GITHUB_TOKEN.
  • main.yml. One line, master → main. No master branch exists on the remote, so the previous trigger could never fire.
  • Open findings. The only review thread was on tag-release.yml, which this revision deletes; it was already resolved by the reviewer. Nothing outstanding.
  • Checks. CodeQL, Ruby 3.4, Analyze (actions), Analyze (ruby) all completed successfully; CodeRabbit commit status is success. Nothing blocking.

Two things worth flagging rather than blocking:

  • Behaviour change. Pushing a tag by hand no longer publishes anything — the only publish trigger is now a change to version.rb on main. That is the point of the change, but it is a change to the release procedure.
  • Pinning. The two new actions/checkout@v3 lines follow the unpinned style already in this file, whereas bump-version.yml pins actions by SHA. The repository is inconsistent on this; this PR neither improves nor worsens gem-push.yml, so I am not treating it as a defect here.

Not verified: no workflow run was executed on GitHub, so the end-to-end chain (merge → tag → publish) is unproven in the real environment. The first run after this merges will take the needed=false path, since main is at 0.7.1 and v0.7.1 already exists.

Reviewed in place of CodeRabbit, which reported Review limit reached for this HEAD (1 review per hour, next window around 00:44Z) and has issued no verdict on 5cd1451.
