I also encounter this; I noted that SDFtool on Mac uses a different path:

I had the same issue trying to flash a TS-H353C on a mac:

> redumper flash::mt1339 --drive=disk4 --firmware=TS-H353C_ZZ00-mod.bin
error: failed to unmount drive, status: unknown status (0xf8da0003)

The flashing worked fine on Linux.

The drive completes the drive test fine on Linux:

> sudo redumper drive::test --drive=/dev/sr0`

While it fails on the mac:

> sudo redumper drive::test --drive=disk4
error: failed to find matching SCSI authoring device with BSD name 'disk4'
> sudo redumper drive::test --drive=rdisk4
error: failed to unmount drive, status: unknown status (0xf8da0003)

EDIT: I tried drive::test with 5 different drives and only the TS-H353C fails. Same CD, same USB->IDE/SATA adapter.
