The current version of Snort used is 2.9.7.6, which went (EOL in 2017)[https://blog.snort.org/2017/03/snort-2976-is-end-of-life.html]. Snort currently develops two different versions: 2.9 and 3.0. Since every increase in y (where the format is w.x.y.z) is a major release, we may be able to upgrade to 2.9.20.0. Upgrading to Snort 3.0 might be just as worthwhile.
