Summary

  • make mise bootstrap the setup coordinator while keeping BrewFile as the sole Homebrew inventory
  • move seven pinned tools, 19 static dotfiles, and 12 typed macOS defaults into discoverable mise.toml
  • retain explicit exception scripts for Lazygit, skill sync, current-host battery preference, app restarts, and manual follow-up
  • replace stale, architecture-specific shell activation and correct login-shell runtime precedence
  • update setup guidance, migration docs, project skills, verification, and review artifacts

Safety and rollout

Merging does not automatically run Brew, defaults, tool installation, or bootstrap. Existing shell symlinks will read the merged zshenv and zshrc in new shells. The recovery-first rollout is documented in docs/mise-bootstrap-rollout.md and applies each surface separately without using --force-dotfiles.

Validation

  • scripts/ci_checks.sh
  • isolated bootstrap apply in disposable homes using mise 2026.7.5
  • second-run dotfile convergence
  • conflicting dotfile refusal and preservation
  • login/non-login Node and Python shim consistency
  • exception execution with fake mise, lazygit, defaults, and killall
  • bootstrap schema/status checks with a compatible mise binary

No live Brew bundle, defaults write, tool installation, shell change, or bootstrap apply was run on this Mac.
