General Questions

Q: What is an ITIN?
An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a 9-digit tax ID issued by the IRS for individuals who have US tax obligations but cannot obtain a Social Security Number.

Q: Who can apply for an ITIN?
Any non-US resident or non-citizen with a US tax filing requirement. This includes foreign investors, YouTube creators, US LLC owners, real estate investors, and dependents of US taxpayers.

Q: Can I apply from outside the United States?
Yes. Our service is 100% remote. You never need to travel to the US, visit an embassy, or go to a post office.

Q: How long does it take to get an ITIN?
The IRS typically takes 6–8 weeks to process ITIN applications. During peak tax season (January–April), it can take up to 11–14 weeks.

Passport & Documents

Q: Do I need to mail my original passport?
No. As an IRS Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA), we can certify your identity remotely. Your passport stays with you.

Q: What if I don't have a US visa?
That's fine. A US visa is only required if you entered the US and it applies to your situation. Most foreign applicants do not have a US visa.

Q: Can I apply with a non-US passport?
Yes. We accept passports from all countries. There is no requirement for any specific nationality.

Q: What if my application is rejected?

Q: Can I track the status of my application?
Yes. After submission, you can check your status directly on the IRS website using the information provided with your submission.

ITIN Usage

Q: Can I use an ITIN to work in the US?
No. An ITIN is for tax purposes only and does not grant work authorization.

Q: Can I open a US bank account with an ITIN?
Some banks accept an ITIN for non-resident account opening. Requirements vary by bank.

Q: Does an ITIN expire?
Yes. An ITIN expires if not used on a federal tax return for three consecutive years. Some ITINs are also subject to scheduled IRS expiration. See ITIN-Renewal.

Q: Can I apply for an EIN with an ITIN?
Yes. If you have a US LLC, you need an EIN for the business. As the foreign owner, you also need your personal ITIN.
