chore: sync with upstream silo-plugin-metadata-audiobook main (2026-09-28) - #8
Conversation
* docs: standardize contribution guidance * docs: address review feedback
The title search built its URL as /books?q=, which is not a route on
api.audnex.us. The API answers it with
{"message":"Route GET:/books?q=... not found","statusCode":404}
so every title search this client ever issued failed -- silently, since
a 404 surfaces as "no results" rather than an error. That hit exactly
the audiobooks that need identifying: audnexus is first in the provider
fan-out and is the preferred source, but it can only answer by ASIN, and
an item with no ASIN is precisely the one being searched for. The result
is that audnexus contributed nothing to unidentified items while
appearing to participate.
The correct route is /books/search. Verified against 20 unidentified
production audiobooks: the old path returned 404 on all 20, the correct
path answered 18, and scoring those against the library titles accepted
16 -- ahead of iTunes at 12 on the same sample.
Notably the right book is often not the top row: audnexus returned
Ghosthound 13 for a Ghosthound 1 item, "The Bitcoin Standard" for
"Bitcoin", and "The Good Mothers" for "Mother of Storms". All three
resolve correctly once the caller scores the candidate list instead of
taking results[0].
The bug survived because the existing tests' stub server answers any
path, so the wrong URL still returned the fixture. Both new tests assert
the path itself: the title route and the by-ASIN fetch route.

Rebased onto main after #8; Audnexus title search stays enabled via /books/search, the rest of the branch is unchanged: iTunes Fetch via the lookup endpoint, a typed all-providers-failed error surfaced as a gRPC code, and a 25s per-provider deadline.
get() reports an unknown or delisted ASIN as a nil body; decoding that nil body surfaced as a bogus "unexpected end of JSON input" error instead of "no match". Guard Fetch the same way Search already does. Reduced from the original #7 by Rhainland: the iTunes Fetch and the Audnexus search changes landed through #8 and #9. …dible product pages during search (Silo-Server#11) * feat(provider): make search sources configurable and stop scraping Audible product pages during search Every title search fanned out to all eight sources and waited for the slowest. Audible's search fetched the results page and then three product pages, each waiting on a six-per-minute token bucket, so a search took about twenty seconds even though Audnexus and Apple Books had answered in under a second. Add a "sources" global config with a switch per source. Audnexus, Apple Books and AudiobookCovers are on by default; the four scrapers and AudiMeta are off. A disabled source still resolves an ID it already owns through Fetch, so items that carry an ASIN or Apple Books ID keep working. Audible search now reads the result cards directly (ASIN, title, cover, author, narrator, length) and leaves the product page to Fetch. One request per search instead of four. Live timing for three test titles: 0.1s to 3.0s with the defaults, 3.0s to 7.8s with Audible enabled, down from about 20s. Brings in upstream's configurable search sources (Audible product-page scraping no longer runs during search), cover backfill, Audnexus /books/search and 404-as-no-match fixes, matchable-audiobook fixes, and standardized contribution docs. New upstream code/tests/docs rebranded to Prairie module paths and SDK imports. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Upstream made scrapers opt-in for title search, reads Audible search cards instead of product pages, maps an Audnexus 404 to no match, and returns ProvidersFailedError when every source fails. Enable all sources where the tests exercise scrapers, switch the Audible search test to the card fixture, and update the 404 and all-failed assertions. Align the SDK requirement with go.mod.

Return only the requested collection.
If /lookup returns a collection with a CollectionID different from id, this loop returns that collection as the requested book. Apple documents lookups that expand an artist ID into related collections, so a nonzero CollectionID alone does not establish identity. Compare each CollectionID with the requested numeric ID before returning a match. Otherwise, Fetch can attach another book’s metadata to the item. (developer.apple.com)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
A failed source turns a true no-match result into an error that is retried forever.
The condition len(all) == 0 && len(failures) > 0 returns ProvidersFailedError when any source fails. It does not require every source to fail. The doc comments at Lines 147-150 and Line 209 say "every source failed". The code does not do that.
Example trigger: an operator enables audimeta, and the hosted API answers 403 to every request (manifest Line 108). A title search then finds no match in Audnexus and iTunes, and AudiMeta fails. Search returns ProvidersFailedError, and searchFailureStatus maps it to codes.Unavailable. The host never records no_match, so it retries the item indefinitely. A long-term FailureBlocked source keeps every unmatched item in the retry loop.
Choose one contract and apply it in both the code and the comments:
- Return the error only when every enabled source fails (
len(failures) == len(tasks)). - Or leave out
FailureBlockedfailures when you decide between an error and a clean no-match.
Proposed fix (every source failed)

Match the README to the code for ID resolution.
The README says that every source resolves a known ID, but fetchPrimary does not do this in all cases. For a bare asin with no provider hint, only Audnexus and then AudiMeta resolve it. Audible and AudiobookCovers do not. Make the sentence narrower, for example: "IDs already on the item still resolve through Fetch, whether or not the source is enabled for title searches."

Review comment at @README.md around lines 15 - 16:
Narrow the README’s ID-resolution sentence to match fetchPrimary: state that IDs
already on the item resolve through Fetch regardless of whether the source is
enabled for title searches, rather than claiming every source resolves them.

mainwith upstreamSilo-Server/silo-plugin-metadata-audiobookmainvia a real merge, so upstream stays in ancestry.Upstream commits (6):
feat(provider): make search sources configurable and stop scraping Audible product pages during search (#11): adds asourcesglobal config schema with a switch per source. The defaults are Audnexus, Apple Books, and AudiobookCovers; the scrapers and AudiMeta are opt-in.fix(provider): backfill missing cover from cover-bearing sources (#3)fix(audnexus): treat a 404 ASIN lookup as no match (#7)fix(provider): stop silently writing off matchable audiobooks (#9): adds gRPC status mapping, andgoogle.golang.org/grpcmoves to a direct require.fix(audnexus): use /books/search for title lookups (#8)docs: standardize contribution guidance (#10)The new upstream code, tests, and docs are rebranded:

No newer SDK API is needed:pkg/pluginsdk/manifestis already in the pinned Prairie SDK.Behavior change for users: after this lands, the Audible, Storytel, BookBeat, Audioteka, and AudiMeta scrapers are off by default for title searches. ID lookups still resolve through them.
Conflict notes
manifest.json: took upstream's new description and setup text (rebranded to Prairie audiobook libraries), and kept Prairie's homepage, source, support, changelog, and publisher fields. Upstream's newsourcesschema auto-merged.main_test.go: import block conflict only. Kept Prairie's import paths. The new upstreamTestRuntimeServerConfigureAppliesSourcesmerged in.README.md: Prairie had a short three-line README, and upstream rewrote it with Sources, Configuration, Development, Contributing, and License sections. I took upstream's version and rebranded it..gitignorestill ignores/silo-plugin-audiobook-metadata, same as onmain.main_test.goandprovider/coverage_http_test.go) encoded the pre-merge behavior, so they failed. They now enable every source where they exercise scrapers, use upstream'saudible_search_cards.htmlfixture for the Audible search test (I removed the now-unusedaudible_search.html), expect an Audnexus 404 to mean no match, and expect*ProvidersFailedErrorwhen every source fails. Coverage is 95.2% against the 95% floor.ci.ymlrunsgo test ... || true, so a failing test only shows up through the coverage floor. That is worth tightening separately.Release / deploy note
Release workflow only runs on
v*tags or manual dispatch, so merging does not publish anything. CI runs on PR and on push to main. The manifestversion(0.1.3) was not bumped; a release needs a bump and a tag.Merge with 'Create a merge commit' — do not squash.
