The Semi-Automatic Pipe Inspection and Cleaning Robot is a mechatronics-based robotic system designed to inspect and clean internal pipeline environments.
Traditional pipeline inspection and cleaning methods often require manual operation in hazardous and confined environments. This project introduces a robotic solution that combines real-time visual inspection, motorized cleaning, and wireless control to reduce human involvement and improve safety.
The system uses an ESP32 CAM module for live video inspection and an ESP32 NodeMCU as the main control unit. The robot is equipped with DC motors, a pulley-based movement mechanism, and rotating brushes for cleaning operations.
- Develop a robotic system for pipeline inspection and cleaning.
- Provide real-time visual monitoring inside pipelines.
- Implement a motorized cleaning mechanism.
- Enable wireless operation and remote control.
- Improve safety by reducing manual inspection requirements.
- Develop a low-cost solution using embedded systems.
The system consists of two main sections:
- ESP32 CAM captures live video from inside the pipe.
- Video feedback is transmitted wirelessly to the operator.
- ESP32 NodeMCU controls robot movement and cleaning operations.
- Motor drivers control DC motors.
- Cleaning brushes rotate to remove debris from pipe walls.

The gear motor and pulley mechanism allow the robot to move forward and backward inside the pipeline.
The ESP32 CAM captures live video of the internal pipe condition and sends the video feedback to the operator.
Two DC motors rotate cleaning brushes to remove dirt, debris, and unwanted material from the pipe surface.
The operator remotely controls inspection and cleaning operations through the wireless communication system.
The ESP32 CAM provides live visual feedback, allowing operators to observe internal pipe conditions.
The robot performs both:
- Pipeline inspection
- Pipeline cleaning
within a single robotic platform.
Rotating brushes powered by DC motors remove debris from pipe walls.
The robot can be controlled remotely, reducing the need for direct human entry into hazardous environments.
The lightweight aluminium frame improves mobility inside pipelines.
