Managing Books

Adding a Book

Manual Entry

  1. Go to πŸ“š Books β†’ βž• Add Book
  2. Fill in the sections:

Basic Information:

  • Title (required)
  • Author β€” select from writers dropdown or type a new name
  • Genre β€” select from list
  • Language β€” Arabic, English, French, Other
  • Publication Year
  • Number of Pages

Publishing Details:

  • Publisher / Edition House β€” text field
  • ISBN β€” 10 or 13 digits

Series (if applicable):

  • Series Name
  • Position in Series

Location & Status:

  • Room β€” free text (legacy) or use shelf dropdown
  • Shelf β€” free text (legacy) or use shelf dropdown
  • "I have read this book" checkbox

Notes:

  • Free text for personal annotations
  1. Click Add Book

Quick Add via ISBN Lookup

  1. In the book form, enter an ISBN in the Quick Add by ISBN section
  2. Click Look Up
  3. The form auto-fills with data from Open Library (title, author, year, pages, publisher)
  4. Review and save

Searching and Filtering

On the πŸ“š Books page:

Filter Options
Search Title or author (real-time)
Language Arabic, English, French, Other
Genre From your genre list
Status Read / Unread
Availability Borrowed / Available
Sort by Recently Added, Title, Author, Year
Sort direction Ascending / Descending

Results show:

  • Book count and pagination
  • Cards with title, author, genre, language, location, status badges

Viewing Book Details

Click any book card to see:

  • Full book information
  • Read/unread status with toggle button
  • Lending status (if currently lent)
  • Location details
  • Lending history table
  • Edit and Delete buttons

Editing a Book

  1. Open book details β†’ click ✏️ Edit
  2. Modify any field
  3. Click Update Book

Deleting a Book

  1. Open book details β†’ click πŸ—‘οΈ Delete
  2. Confirm the deletion
  3. ⚠️ This also deletes lending history for that book

Marking as Read/Unread

Two ways:

  • Book detail page: Click βœ… Mark Read or πŸ“– Mark Unread
  • This toggles the read status instantly

Book Languages

Books can be in:

  • Arabic β€” title/author display in RTL direction
  • English β€” LTR display
  • French β€” LTR display
  • Other β€” LTR display

The book card respects the language direction automatically.
