macOS terminal for cleaning, optimizing and managing your mac
The install script downloads a ready made program for your Mac, Apple silicon or Intel, and puts it in ~/.cargo/bin:
curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -LsSf https://github.com/ado11231/neet/releases/latest/download/neet-installer.sh | shIf you have Rust, you can build the published version instead:
cargo install neetOr build the newest code from source:
cargo install --git https://github.com/ado11231/neet neetneet- neet opens on a menu and starts scanning your home folder in the background.
- Use the arrow keys to move,
Enterto open a screen,Escto go back,?for help, andqto quit.
| Screen | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Quick Clean | Start here: see everything taking space that can be cleared, and move project build folders and old installers to the Trash. |
| Deep Clean | Go through every cache and log rule, and move what your apps can make again to the Trash. |
| Remove App | Remove an app along with the files it left in your Library folder. |
| Large Files | Find your largest and oldest files. |
| Disk | Browse your folders, largest first. |
- Works on macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel.
- Files go to the Trash, never deleted, so you can put them back. Simulator runtimes and Docker images are the exception: neet asks their own tools to remove them, after a red question that says so.
- You review and confirm everything before it moves.
- Your personal folders, iCloud files, keychains, and SSH keys are never touched. The one exception is project build folders and installers, which you pick in Quick Clean.
- For a full scan, give your terminal Full Disk Access:
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Full Disk Access.
- Turn on your terminal app, such as Terminal, iTerm, or Ghostty.
- Quit and reopen the terminal, then run
neetagain.
- The wiki links every doc and section in one place.
- Features: what neet does now, and what is planned.
- Interface: every screen, its layout, and its keys.
- Safety: what neet may and may not change.
- Roadmap: what is done and what comes next.
- Architecture: how the code is organized, for contributors.
