Death System
Death in Eroded World is punishing, but not random deletion. The system creates a protected recovery objective.
When a player dies, their inventory is stored in a Death Chest (eroded:death_ender_chest). The chest uses owner-based protection and can remain protected for a configurable time.
Default fixed protection fallback:
"protectionTicks": 6000Protection can scale with death distance:
-
minMinutes:3 -
maxMinutes:20 -
minutesPerBlock:0.01 -
useSpawnIfNoBed:true
This means distant deaths can remain protected longer.
The death point can display a floating hologram with owner and protection information. Hologram animation settings include rotation speed, bobbing speed and bobbing amplitude.
The Return Compass (eroded:death_compass) guides the player back to their last death memory. On use, it can whisper remaining protection time and coordinates.
The compass also has stress and heartbeat behavior controlled by death.json.
- Recover energy before returning.
- Bring light if the death was underground.
- Use the compass to confirm time and location.
- Do not assume another player can access your remains while protection is active.
