Although it's easy to join any two extrusions, assembling them all into a frame is easier if you build all lap joints before all butt joints.
Horizontal extrusions lap joints:
- Overlap extrusions for best bracket access (e.g., build the FirePick base upside down)
- Orient nut with circular flange facing away from screw
- Insert all nuts in extrusion track, with circular flange facing extrusion. Include nuts for all joints!
- Slide nuts to joint locations (tweezers work great)
- Attach screw to brackets
- Screw brackets to nuts and hand tighten to form lap joint that you can adjust
- Position and square off joint precisely
- Tighten all screws
- Flip the assembly if necessary to its normal orientation
Vertical extrusions butt joints:
- Orient nut with circular flange facing away from screw
- Attach screw to bracket
- Attach nut to loosely to screw
- Slide bracket onto vertical extrusion and hand tighten
- Attach vertical extrusion to horizontal extrusion
- Position and square off joint precisely
- Tighten all screws
