Backup Pairs
A backup pair connects one source folder with one target folder.
Warning
Incorrect source or target paths can cause backups to be written to the wrong location.
Retention can delete files in the target location.
Source Cleanup can delete files in the source location.
The folder whose contents will be backed up.
Review the source path carefully before the first backup and after importing settings.
The folder where backups will be stored.
Do not use the same directory as both source and target.
Use the checkbox in the first column.
Disabled pairs are skipped by manual and automatic backup runs.
Click the gear icon to configure:
- Versioning
- Copy-error handling
- Skip dialogs
- Custom timer
- Retention
- Source Cleanup
Skip dialogs skips selected normal backup prompts and error messages.
It does not suppress the destructive-operation confirmations for Retention or Source Cleanup.
Retention must be enabled:
- Globally in Settings
- Separately for the backup pair
Retention settings remain unavailable while global Retention is disabled.
Source Cleanup must be enabled:
- Globally in Settings
- Separately for the backup pair
Source Cleanup settings remain unavailable while global Source Cleanup is disabled.
- Red
R: Retention is active globally and for this pair - Cyan
C: Source Cleanup is active globally and for this pair - Both markers: Both features are active
A red warning banner is shown in the main window while at least one destructive feature is active.
Before saving a backup pair:
- Verify the full source path.
- Verify the full target path.
- Review exclusions.
- Review Retention rules.
- Review Source Cleanup rules.
- Keep an independent backup outside the configured paths.
