Restoring Backups

Caution
EasyVersionBackup does not provide an integrated or automatic restore function.
Restoration must be performed manually.
No guarantee is made that a backup is complete, correct, readable, recoverable, or suitable for restoration.
- Do not immediately overwrite the current data.
- Create an independent backup of the current source location.
- Restore into a separate temporary folder first.
- Inspect the restored files.
- Test the restored application or data where possible.
- Copy back only the files that are actually required.
- Locate the required backup version.
- Copy it to a separate temporary directory.
- Review its contents.
- Compare it with the current data.
- Copy the required files manually to the intended location.
- Locate the required ZIP backup.
- Test whether the ZIP file opens without errors.
- Extract it to a separate temporary directory.
- Review the extracted contents.
- Copy the required files manually to the intended location.
- EasyVersionBackup does not automatically determine the correct restore destination.
- EasyVersionBackup does not automatically merge restored and current data.
- Existing files may be overwritten when copied back manually.
- Application-specific databases or configuration files may require additional restore steps.
- A successful backup status does not guarantee a successful restore.
- Retention may already have deleted older backup versions.
- Source Cleanup may already have deleted original source files.
For important data:
- Create a test backup.
- Move or copy the backup to a location inaccessible to EasyVersionBackup.
- Restore it into an isolated test folder.
- Verify file counts, file sizes, and critical contents.
- Open the restored files with the relevant application.
- Repeat this test regularly.
