Warning
Settings can change what is copied, skipped, overwritten, retained, or deleted.
Review every imported or modified setting before running a backup.
Configure:
- Default versioning
- Auto increment
- Minimize to system tray
- Close to system tray
- Automatic update check
- Start with Windows
- Global Retention activation
- Global Source Cleanup activation
- Retention warning dialogue
Retention and Source Cleanup are experimental destructive features and are disabled by default.
Both require explicit activation and manual text confirmation.
Configure:
- ZIP or folder backups
- Global automatic-backup timer
- Copy-error behavior
- Target-conflict handling
Tags can be added and removed in Settings.
Tags can also protect selected backups from Retention.
Configure the application log level.
Settings changes and security confirmations are written to:
<application directory>\Logs\EasyVersionBackup_system.log
The Tools tab provides:
- Export Settings
- Import Settings
Exports contain the complete settings object, including backup pairs and destructive-feature settings.
Imported settings are loaded from the selected file and applied after the Settings dialog is confirmed.
After importing:
- Review every source path.
- Review every target path.
- Review exclusions.
- Review Retention settings.
- Review Source Cleanup settings.
- Run a test backup with non-critical data.
Enabled:
Project_v1.0.zip
Disabled:
Project_v1.0\
When enabled, locked or unavailable files can be skipped and the backup continues.
A completed backup may therefore be incomplete.
Review all skipped-file warnings.
Settings are stored only here:
<application directory>\Settings\EasyVersionBackup.settings.json
Keep this file when updating or moving the application.
Deleting or renaming it causes the application to start with default settings.
The application uses manual text confirmation for:
- Initial disclaimer acceptance
- Global Retention activation
- Global Source Cleanup activation
- Recurring data-loss warnings
Warnings and confirmations reduce accidental activation but cannot guarantee that data loss will not occur.
